Colin’s Bio
After graduating from the University of Virginia, I became a math teacher in Baltimore with Teach for America and discovered a passion for education. Following our teaching commitment, my wife and I were lucky enough to move back to Charlottesville, VA for her medical training and where I accepted a position at a small hedge fund. Over more than a decade, I grew as a professional and an investor, learning the theory and practice of disciplined investing and risk management, while forging connections across the financial industry. However, I missed the deep connection to our clients’ everyday lives that I loved so much about teaching.
Over the years, my wife and I have benefited greatly from having access to a financial planner to help us juggle student debt, buy a home, grow our family, and own businesses. I’ve personally witnessed the value and the pitfalls of financial planning up close as family members have navigated career changes, financial setbacks, unexpected health crises, disability, retirement, and the loss of a parent or spouse. The right financial planner serves as a guide to reaching your goals and a trusted resource amidst uncertainty.
Since becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and founding Oakleigh Wealth Services in Charlottesville, VA I am so grateful to have found a calling and a vocation that engages both the head and the heart. Whether you are encountering a specific obstacle, pursuing a dream, providing for your family, giving back to the community, or enjoying the fruits of your labor, I look forward to serving you.
