Annual Gift Tax Exclusion:

$19,000 per donor per donee

Gifts above this amount (per donor per donee) are not necessarily subject to gift tax; it’s just that you must report the amount over the exclusion via Form 709. These amounts count against your lifetime exemption for gift and estate tax ($13,990,000 in 2025). Assuming you don’t gift or pass on more than this amount (doubled for married couples), you’re not currently at risk of owing gift or estate tax.*

*The current lifetime exemption is set to revert to pre-2018 levels after 2025, cutting the current exception in half unless Congressional action extends them. Therefore, you should consult with your financial and estate planning advisor if you are close to 50% of the current exclusion.
